Grand Opening Celebration for Hotel Rose
Hotel Rose opened during Rockford’s annual Harvest Festival. Hotel Rose partner, John Wheeler commented, “When we gathered here at the groundbreaking, we said Hotel Rose would become a community gathering place, and a beacon for visitors and locals alike. Today we are realizing that accomplishment as we celebrate this completion and open our doors to the public during one of Rockford’s largest community events. This wasn’t coincidental. Hotel Rose Impact on Local Community
WDG broke ground in June 2024, after more than five years of extensive planning, design, and pre-development due diligence. The project transformed a .4-acre surface-parking lot into a three-story mixed-use development housing Hotel Rose, Char + Barrel, and incoming commercial tenants, Kula Yoga, Direct Aesthetics, and Mudpenny. Hotel Rose features 54 hotel rooms, the 88-seat Char + Barrel restaurant, and additional ground-floor retail/restaurant tenants that will open in the coming months. The development is a significant economic catalyst for the area, employing approximately 75 positions between all tenants, including part-time and full-time career opportunities. Additionally, the project delivers the first full-service hotel to downtown Rockford.

Key Partners in Hotel Rose Development
WDG is the developer and owner. WDG Construction served as the construction manager and entered into a joint venture agreement with West Michigan contractor, Platinum Contracting Group for on-site coordination. Mercantile Bank provided financing, which was complimented by a CRP loan from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. PURE Real Estate Brokerage was the listing agent for the ground floor and PURE Real Estate Management is the property manager for the retail. AHC Hospitality is the manager of the hotel and Char + Barrel.
